All people are different or Why is it difficult for Kolya to work with pivot tables. My main discovery from the experience of managing people was the realization that all people are different. Each of us has his own temperament, character and speed of work in writing. And we do the same things in different ways.
My employees were no exception. Alex was the best at creating spreadsheets, Nati was a master at making colorful presentations, Trixie was great at writing reports, and Oleg was the fastest at solving administrative issues. But it was necessary to change their places, and everything went awry. Alex hung around analyzing data from a client, Ryan couldn't get printer paper for two days. Each of them had their own strengths and weaknesses, and as a leader, I could not ignore this. Gradually, I learned to take into account individual characteristics. Everyone who tried to write essays for me, I determined who knew what position, and who would be better off. Since then, managing people has become a fascinating pastime for me. I strived to find the best use for each employee and maximize their potential. But, for some reason, I never tried to apply a similar approach to myself. And instead, like a superhero, she grabbed any job and strove to achieve perfection in everything. In contrast to the strengths of my employees, by the age of 25 I had a vague idea of \u200b\u200bwhat I was good at and what was not very good.
What can I do better than others?
It was not so easy to answer this question on your own. I clearly needed help. I chose ten people from different areas of my life (friends, co-workers, supervisors, loved ones, and subordinates) and asked them to talk about my strengths and weaknesses. It turns out that those around me really knew what my abilities and shortcomings were.
My best friend answered my question about strengths:“You can listen and analyze. You know how to organize people. You're just sorting things out. You discard the superfluous and concentrate on the main thing. A colleague at work, when asked to tell me about what I was good at, noted the following qualities:
